include; w§a (also known as "wsa"), 5o% beam splitter, volente o nolente and the
melted lego band...
- how can you define your music
i prefer not to use definitions. i try be open to all means of participating in
the competition of ideas...
- you are running label. what styles do you cover with your label and what’s the
concept. how are you selecting artists and sounds that you are releasing
i function as an advisor to the white rose network, which is a collective
dedicated to the production, promotion and distribution of independent art
projects. the white rose network also works within print, video, online
publication, live promotions, performance arts and other do-it-yourself oriented
multimedia events. the white rose network works as much as possible thru
- what’s the meaning of your label name
the white rose network was named in homage to the white rose, a german anti-nazi
group. each year since 1997, a different language interpretation is used. for
2oo3, the arabic (shabkatu 'l-ward al-abyad) is being used. from 1986-1996, the
collective was known as die weisse rose netzwerk. other languages used have
included swedish, spanish, latin, esperanto, haitian creole, chinese...
- what are the responsibilities of a label. what do they have to do in
relation to artists, what obligations they have to take
the white rose network offers support in the areas of production, promotion and
distribution. artists retain all copyrights to their works, and receive copies
of releases. as a collective, artists are encouraged to participate in the
mutual support of the cooperative.
- you are also running a zine. what do you cover in it, what’s the concept
and what are intentions that you like to achieve with it
the online publication, desideratum (http://white-rose.net/desideratum) is an
outlet for poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction, graphic arts, reviews, critiques
and commentary on whatever catches our attention. submissions of original
material are encouraged and welcome, as are comments, feedback and criticisms...
- noise music is quiet mainstreamised last couple of years. can you agree on
that question and whats your opinion about noise scene
experimental arts, such as "noise music" are scarcely mainstream here in
michigan. there are a few dedicated people who are creative and encouraging, but
still struggles to find venues for performance, airplay on the radio or releases
in local music stores. against all resistance, the work persists...
- what do u think about cdr releases/cdr labels that are appearing more
constantly nowadays. do you think their existence is excused in this conditions
of really huge music industry
i think everyone should self-release cdrs. incessantly. the music industry is
irrelevant, having as much to do with music as advertising has with art...
- what can you say about music scene in america, exactly scene that you are
interested in and that you cover. are there many happenings, artists, labels...
i happen to be currently located in the detroit/michigan area, where i have
found not-infrequent gatherings of people with bad hair doing good stuff. makes
me feel right at home. i think providence (rhode island), lexington (kentucky)
and san francisco (california) are some other interesting vortexes...
